Whole Rosted Garlic is one of my favorite things to make in the oven! It comes out carmelized with a sweet, nutty flavor that is just quite simply so delicious. It is creamy and spreadable and can add an extra depth of flavor to your next dish. So simple to make, yet so over the top tasty!

Basic Ingredients for this Roasted Garlic Recipe
- A Large Head of Garlic
- Olive Oil
- Salt to taste – I enjoy using a flaky salt such as Maldon Sea Salt, but regular table salt works great too
How to Make Roasted Garlic
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Peal off any loose layers from the head of garlic. Be sure to leave at least the last layer in order to hold the garlic cloves all together.
- Cut the top 1/4th of the garlic head off to expose the garlic cloves.
- Place the head of garlic inside your galic roaster cut side facing up. (I have had my Longaberger pottery garlic roaster for several years that I love, but you can find other options online by searching garlic roasters or garlic bakers, OR you can simply use aluminum foil to wrap and seal around the garlic.)
- Liberally drizzle olive oil on top of the garlic and sprinkle with salt.
- Bake for 45 minutes until the garlic is a beautiful carmalized brown color.
- Allow to cool to the touch and then squeeze from the uncut side. Or using a small fork you can remove the cloves from the head of garlic.
What does Whole Roasted Garlic Taste Like?
Whole Roasted Garlic has a sweet, nutty flavor that it gets from caramelizing in the oven as it roasts. It has a milder flavor than raw garlic, and looses the ‘bite’ that raw garlic has. As it roasts it it becomes soft, creamy, and spreadable. It is absolutley delicious!
What Can Roasted Garlic Be Used For?
If you’re anything like me, you might choose to simply eat the fresh roasted garlic all on it’s own! However, there are endless options! Make a Roasted Garlic Cheese Bread, Roasted Garlic Butter, spread it directly on baguette slices or fresh sourdough, add to mashed potatoes or other casseroles and dishes, display on a butter board, or even add it to a pizza!

Other Ways to Make Roasted Garlic
- Wrap in aluminum foil and bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 45 minutes
- Air Fryer Roasted Garlic – Preheat airfryer to 380F and wrap in aluminum. Airfry for 16-20 minutes until carmelized.
- Roast it in a Muffin Tin – Place the head of garlic in the muffin holes and cover with aluminum foil.
How to Store Roasted Garlic
You can save Roasted Garlic in an airtight container for up to 3 days in the refrigerator. Or, to freeze I like to smash it with a fork and mold in a covered ice cube tray. I then simply pop a cube out of the freezer as needed. It will store in the freezer for up to 2-3 months.
